01THE INTERVIEW
“My grandfather sold on a handshake. I sell on a spectrum — and let the mountain do the talking.”
— TESFAYE BEKELE, SAWDA WASHING STATION
Q.Tell us about the farm.
Tesfaye's family has farmed Guji/Sawda, Ethiopia for generations, balancing tradition with a new appetite for measured, evidence-first processing.
Q.What are you sending to the auction?
Heirloom, natural process, grown at 1900–2300 m. Explosive blueberry and dark florals typical of Guji naturals, with a winey, syrupy body.
Q.Who do you hope wins it?
A roaster who will put the farm's name on the bag and come back next season — the point of selling on evidence is building relationships that outlast one harvest.
